Mutiny ! And a new challenge... [Apr. 4th, 2004|10:31 am]
[mood |predatory]

Aye, avast ! It's me, piratey_thing, and I'm takin' over this vessel. That's right, it's a mutiny. I've put Cunien ashore on a god-forsaken deserted island with nothin' but a pen with a single ink cartridge. Ye won't be readin' any more fan fiction from her for a while. * evil, piratey grin *

Ok, now that I've gotten your attention, the truth is that Cunien is off to New Zealand for ten weeks. * pauses to let the inevitable jealousy subside * Yeah, lucky girl. So, while the Captain's away, the crew will, I hope, continue to play.

Here's this week's challenge, inspired by Spring Break here in the USA:

Send one or more of the crew of the Black Pearl ashore for some R & R. The genre can be humourous, angst-ridden, whatever you like.

10 points for incorporating Spring Break mayhem into the story - you know, chugging, drinking games, spin the bottle, whatever. The cheesier the better, IMHO.

10 points for refraining from incorporating the afore-mentioned cheesiness. See, you can't lose with this challenge.

25 points for including one of the nameless crew members - you know, the old guy, or the midget guy, or the redhead - give 'em a name and a bit of character development.

100,000 points for simply answering this challenge, or, as always, answering or continuing on with one of the previous challenges.

By now you may have guessed that the points don't matter. * grin * Anyway, comments welcomed, suggestions, new challenge ideas, threats of mutiny, anything you like...post 'em here as a comment, or click on my user-name (piratey_thing) or you can even email me if you like: (carolyn_mcneal@hotmail.com)

Not an official member ? That's Ok, I wasn't either until yesterday ! Join up or just post your response.

Thanks much !

[music |You Thought Wrong/Kelly Clarkson]

Allrighty, this is the prologue to a response for Challenge #2. I'm not entirely sure if I like it or not, but it'll have to do as nobody posted anything on here for like a month, so here we go...

Haul away boys! [Feb. 8th, 2004|08:05 pm]

[mood |busy]
[music |Kate Rusby - Underneath the Stars]

Wow, been busy round here eh?! Doesn't matter, on with the second challenge? I know it should have been posted last sunday, but in the vain hope that I would write a fic, and that more people would join, I kept it open.
Well, no more people have joined, and I haven't managed to write the fic. Whoops. I am though, writing some more of 'Liberty, Equality, Fraternity' so at least I'm doing something construcive and PotC realted.

Don't know if I mentioned if before, but although there will be a new challenge every sunday or two, you can still post a response to a challenge after it has been and gone.

Also, I thought it would be cool, if you all agree, to make this a recs page too. So if there are any cool PotC fics that you know about, you can post a link to them here. But I've seen other sites where this can get nasty, with people answering a particular rec with horrible comments, but as there are only 3 of us here so far, then I don't think that's going to be happening any time soon!

So anyway: Challenge 2. Another open one as there aren't many here.
Choose a line or an action from the film and elaborate on it's origins perhaps, or another time the character in question has mentioned it. For instance, haven't you ever wondered where Jack got his preoccupation with eunuchs?! How did he learn to dive like that? It'd be interesting to see some non-Jack fics also, purely because I can't think of any examples that aren't concerned with him!

And this time I will be a good girl and try my hardest to answer this challenge!

Finally: It might be a thought that if we are posting a fic we write a heading in the post - Title, rating, pairing, warning, summary - whatever you feel is neccessary. Then post it in an lj cut. Sorted.

Cheers me dears!

A Tale From The One-Handed Thief [Jan. 27th, 2004|06:02 pm]

1st challenge? [Jan. 18th, 2004|07:33 pm]

[mood |indescribable]
[music |The Return of the King soundtrack]

Ok, here is a short challenge that you can do if you really want, or just wait until next week when I'll post a proper one, and we can go from there - sound okay?

Here's a relatively simple one -

Challenge 1: write a character's drunken conversation. It can be between two drunk people, one drunk and one sober person, one drunk person and himself, one drunk person and a parrot - whatever you want. The time limit is 1 hour, because it's our first.

If people like this and are still writing, or if new people join our crew and want to have a go, we'll extend it to the sunday after next. But if people hate it and think that quite frankly it's a rubbish challenge, then we'll try and think of another for next week - do we have an accord?

If you are one of the, quite probably, many many people who think this challenge is pants, please go easy on me and bear in mind I saw Return of the King for the first time this weekend - I'm totally brain-dead and will be until I see it again and get my head around the whole thing. Please please please feel totally free to email me with a challenge for next week or the week after, depending, because I am beginning to realise how hard this is going to be! Help!

***By the way, if you want to post a story, you'll have to do it as an lj-cut - you can find out how to do this here http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq.bml and it looks like this when you do it.

Come to me my prettiesCollapse )

and you do it like this (very complicated so I'll try and explain) - this is how I did the one above - after much trial and a great deal of error - < l j - cut text = "Come to me my pretties" > really hope this works < / l j - cut > (but without the spaces in between)

Ahoy [Jan. 16th, 2004|01:21 am]

[mood |hopefulhopeful]

Okay, so here it is! Lot's needs to be done - I'm going to change the colours and mess around a bit - suggestions will be most welcome as I don't know what to do, basically! I'll probably do more tomorrow night, but right now it is 10 past 1 am and I am nackered!

To begin with, you cannot post here unless you are a member, and I think you have to be a livejournal user for that. It's really easy to join up, believe me, if I can do it anyone can. You can get a free account, like I have, which is pretty nifty, and allows you your own livejournal and the chance to join spiffing communities like this!

Quick rules round up - Pirates code: no off topic posts here - if you want to post anything other than a fic then it will have to be in comment to an already exsisting post.
- I will try and post a challenge every other Sunday, providing life doesn't get in the way - email me if you have any suggestions or ideas for one.
- If you are not happy with anything I am doing and want to have your say go straight ahead and email me, please. This is a community and everyone should have a say it what happens. In the words of Cap'n Jack Sparrow, "I can't sail this ship into Tortuga all on me onesie."! Haha! first quote of the community!

Ok, so how does this sound? Want to yell at me? Across cyberspace at least - email me!

P.S - you can comment on this post even if you are not a livejournal memeber. I think
