Haul away boys! [Feb. 8th, 2004|08:05 pm]

[music |Kate Rusby - Underneath the Stars]

Wow, been busy round here eh?! Doesn't matter, on with the second challenge? I know it should have been posted last sunday, but in the vain hope that I would write a fic, and that more people would join, I kept it open.
Well, no more people have joined, and I haven't managed to write the fic. Whoops. I am though, writing some more of 'Liberty, Equality, Fraternity' so at least I'm doing something construcive and PotC realted.

Don't know if I mentioned if before, but although there will be a new challenge every sunday or two, you can still post a response to a challenge after it has been and gone.

Also, I thought it would be cool, if you all agree, to make this a recs page too. So if there are any cool PotC fics that you know about, you can post a link to them here. But I've seen other sites where this can get nasty, with people answering a particular rec with horrible comments, but as there are only 3 of us here so far, then I don't think that's going to be happening any time soon!

So anyway: Challenge 2. Another open one as there aren't many here.
Choose a line or an action from the film and elaborate on it's origins perhaps, or another time the character in question has mentioned it. For instance, haven't you ever wondered where Jack got his preoccupation with eunuchs?! How did he learn to dive like that? It'd be interesting to see some non-Jack fics also, purely because I can't think of any examples that aren't concerned with him!

And this time I will be a good girl and try my hardest to answer this challenge!

Finally: It might be a thought that if we are posting a fic we write a heading in the post - Title, rating, pairing, warning, summary - whatever you feel is neccessary. Then post it in an lj cut. Sorted.

Cheers me dears!

challenge 2

Interesting challenge, will probably write something eventually for it...don't know when though. Am going to try to make it non-Jack because I fear otherwise I'll end up never writing about anyone else. Making this a recs page perfectly fine idea.

I've been wracking my brain, I just couldn't think of a thing for the first challenge. But I am inspired for the second one and I am furiously typing away at it. Woo-hoo ! I will post it this weekend.

I cannot believe there are only three people in this group. What's wrong with people ? *sniffs the air and looks concerned* Do I need to change my deoderant, do you think ?

Oh well, whatever. Back to typing !

That's as maybe luv, but we're undoubtedly the finest PotC writers on the net at this point in time!

Glad you're inspired by the challenge! I'm not! You know I said that it'd be cool to see some non-sparrow fics? Well I've thought long and hard on this and I think it may just be impossible, in response to this particular challenge. With Jack, we have the odd 'and then they made me their chief',the eunuch comments, the 'impersonting a cleric of the Church of England', and the sacking of Nassau Port without firing a single shot to work with, to name but a few (and I've written about 2 of those already!). Whereas with the other characters we know almost nothing about their lives before the film, or their particular talents, likes and dislikes. They don't seem to have many tales to tell! Hang on a minute...

Ha ha! Something just came to me! Non-sparrow too! Wow, if I can I might just write this one...

I do feel though as if all my energy and enthusiasm at the moment is being directed towards Liberty, Equality, Fraternity. I'm hoping to get chapter 5 out soon. The key word being 'hoping'. But as I'm going away soon I want to try and write a bit more at least!

Anyway, good luck with the challenge! Glad it's inspired you and not pants as I thought it was!

Well, I wrote it, but I can't seem to figure out how to post it here. (I hate html - hate it, hate it, hate it.)

So if you click on my name, piratey_thing, and go to my LiveJournal page, you'll see my story summary there, followed by a dumb little link that's supposed to be the quote that inspired the story. But inexplicably, it's only the first word. (Have I mentioned I hate html ? I have ? Hmph.)

Anyway, click on the truncated linky-quote, and there's my first offering to this community. Cheers !
